Dr. John Fike received the degrees of Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University, and the Ph.D.in Computer Science from Southern Methodist University. In 2009 he retired from Texas A&M University, becoming an Associate Professor Emeritus. His former teaching duties included graduate and undergraduate courses in telecommunications and networking.
Dr. Fike is a lifetime railfan and rail historian, with his principal interests being the Muskogee Company lines and the Missouri-Kansas-Texas. He authored “The MO&G-KO&G To 1926”, which was published by the Oklahoma Historical Society in Railroads In Oklahoma, edited by Dr. Donovan Hofsommer. Dr. Fike has lectured on various aspects of Oklahoma and Southwestern railroad history at the George Bush Presidential Library, and at regional museums. He is a member of several railroad historical organizations, including the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society, the Lexington Group in Transportation History, the NRHS, and groups devoted to the history of specific lines. He hopes to finish his long-promised book on the Muskogee Company railroads within the millennium.
Dr. Fike’s industry experience includes positions as a technician for IBM, a supervisor for RCA at Cape Canaveral, a project engineer for Philco-Ford at the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center, a programmer and supervisor in the Design Automation Department of Texas Instruments in Dallas, and the Executive Manager of the Energy Telecommunications and Electrical Association. He has worked as a consulting engineer for over 30 years, specializing in litigation work related to telecommunications and computing. He was elected Speaker of the Texas A&M Faculty Senate in 2005-2006. At A&M, the Speaker is spokesman for and the equivalent of President of the Faculty.
Dr. Fike is a member of the IEEE, and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Texas.
