Sigi is a retired educator, but also worked as a technical writer and small business owner. Most of her academic career was spent with New Mexico State University, working at various times at the Alamogordo, Carlsbad, and Las Cruces, New Mexico, campuses. Sigi also held an administrative position for a period at El Paso Community College after leaving the aerospace industry.

Sigi was a technical writer at White Sands Missile Range, at HELSTF (the High Energy Laser Systems Test Facility) and later with the GBFEL-TIE project (Ground-Based Free Electron Laser-Test Integration Experiment), part of President Reagan's "Star Wars" program.

Sigi left NMSU to join husband Mike at Texas Tech Medical Center in El Paso, TX, working in the Office of Border Health coordinating pre-med recruiting of both high school and college students. Subsequently, she returned to NMSU, working in the College of Engineering before retiring. Sigi worked in the Dean's Office, coordinating Engineering Student Services and administering the Engineering Scholarship Program. She was responsible for statewide recruiting of engineering students, coordinating the annual engineering career fair, and developing relationships with industry partners. Her last position was as program coordinator for WERC, an environmental education and research consortium. She was the WERC liaison with the regional EPA, spending considerable time in border communities of Mexico working on cross-border air and water quality issues. She was faculty advisor to the American Indian Science & Engineering Society.

Sigi earned her B.S. in education, with majors in German and Government and minor in English. Her M.A. is in Government, with emphasis in Public Law. She returned to the field of education for her doctoral studies, with emphasis in adult and continuing education.

Unlike her husband, Sigi is not a lifelong railfan. After marrying Mike, it was more a situation of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em," although she must admit her Marx trains from her childhood hold very special memories.

Active membership in the R&LHS includes coordinating, with husband Mike, the 2002 R&LHS Annual Meeting in Colorado Springs and the 2006 R&LHS Annual Meeting in Pagosa Springs. That experience lead to coordinating the 2008 Annual Conference in Colorado Springs of the Association of Railway Museums, attended by 165 ARM members. In early 2009, Sigi and Mike reconstituted the R&LHS membership roster, and in June 2009, she was appointed Membership Secretary and elected Director.

Sigi is a supporter of a number of railroad-related organizations, including the NMRA, TCA, MRHS, North Alabama Railroad Museum, Pueblo Railway Museum, Colorado Railroad Museum, Galloping Goose Historical Society, Rocky Mountain Railroad Club, Colorado Midland Quarterly, NARCOA, Denver Garden Railroad Society, and the Lexington Group.
