Grand Central Terminal in New York City is celebrating its centennial in 2013. The birthday event was February 1, but the celebration goes on all year. Charles Freericks, R&LHS member, photographed the terminal on a balmy New York night, August 2, 2009.

The New York Chapter was the first R&LHS chapter to organize, having done so in 1934. Our membership has included Rogers Whitaker (aka E. M. Frimbo), author Roger Arcara, and Charlie Smith (who was also the chapter chairman for many years.)
We have monthly meetings ten times per year (January-June and September-December) on the second Friday of the month. Meetings always feature a program. Recent ones included a presentation of Central Railroad of New Jersey company films, film from original newsreel and related sources, presented by director Jim Guthrie; A presentation of a DVD acquired by the chapter from a Bronx historical group entitled, Streetcars of the Bronx and Westchester. It included very early footage--from the 1920s--and was narrated by the late Roger Arcara.
We publish and distribute a six- to eight-page monthly bulletin, The Running Light, eleven times per year. It includes chapter news, news of railroads in the chapter area, the column Yard Office Rambles by Henry Deutch and Local Rail History by Tom Meehan.
Chapter meetings are at 7:05 p.m. Must be escorted to Williamson Library in Grand Central Terminal. Meet at northeast corner at 6:55 p.m.
